Why this model?
In the early stages, many companies don’t know where to start with blockchains and tokenisation - they need to build an understanding before they can work out which questions to ask. It is difficult to shape this as a conventional project. Later in the journey, they need frequent access to specialist skills, or an external perspective, on an ad hoc basis. The Fractional Advisor provides scarce expertise at a fraction of the cost of a full time hire.

I have found that clients continually bring me complex or vague problems, where the right question is at least as important as the answer. There are very few who share my long history in financial services and a deep and nuanced understanding of the implications of blockchains. I am bilingual in startup and corporate, and I love finding new frameworks for thinking about these topics – it’s about equipping my clients to succeed.

How does it work?
I can provide the advice you need when you need it, on tap. This ranges from building an understanding of blockchains on top of what you already know, to being a thinking partner in the journey. I provide continuity and a trusted source of advice as you develop your own expertise. For specialist areas like technical build or legal advice, I can introduce the right partners, or evaluate potential suppliers.

What can we expect?
An initial step is often to outline an approach, but over time you will “pull” the support you want as you need it, at the pace that works for you. The deliverable may be a training session, a piece of analysis, a scenario process, an essay, a presentation for a Board or ExCo, or just a discussion. A colleague once described my style as “casually professional” – I provide high value, but in an accessible, flexible, relationship based way. I am happy to work remotely – I am based in Cape Town – or to come to you as required.

What about contracting?
I work on a retainer basis: you contract for a number of days per month, with flexibility on the use of that time, and the option to add specific projects or more time if needed. I am flexible on how you use the time, and you can roll it over for a month. Our work will remain confidential, is usually under NDA, and may optionally be exclusive per industry segment.
