How I work

There are two forms of engagement: defined projects with a deliverable, and retained advisory on tap.
Most clients start with one and move to the other.
Unless we change what you do, we have wasted our time

I am not interested in just producing a report that confirms tokenisation is important. The objective in every engagement is to leave your organisation in a better place than before: a key decision made, a capability built, a team that understands the thing well enough to argue about it.

That means working with your people rather than for them, and doing the work with the business unit that will own it.

Defined projects

A scoped piece of work with a deliverable and a date. Typically four to twelve weeks, usually following some version of this sequence, though rarely all of it.

Foundation

Where tokenised money came from, what problem each design solves, and which of your industry's assumptions it disturbs. Pitched at whatever level the audience needs, from a board briefing to a division-wide training session.

Position

Where you stand today against peers locally and globally, what the regulatory direction of travel implies for you, and which scenarios are worth analysing and planning for.

Strategy

Identifying choices and making decisions. Which of the available positions creates a valuable advantage, what it costs, and what has to be true for it to work.

Delivery

Business case, proof of concept, partner selection, and the capability handover. I bring in specialist legal, technical and accounting partners where the work needs them.

Advisory on tap

Prompt, flexible access to specialist advice across your tokenisation and digital asset work, without scoping a project every time a question comes up.

The model

Early-stage organisations often need help before they can define the question. Established ones need someone to call when a regulator publishes, a partner proposes something odd, or a board member forwards an article. Neither fits a project structure well.

A retainer gives you continuity, a counterpart who already knows your context, and the ability to adjust as the market and the rules move. In a given month it might produce a training session, a piece of analysis, a scenario workshop, a short paper, a board or ExCo presentation, or simply a conversation that saves you three weeks.

Terms
  • A set number of days a month, used as you need them

  • Unused days roll over month to month

  • Add-on projects or additional days by agreement

  • Remote or on site; Cape Town based, working across Africa and internationally

  • Confidential, under NDA

  • Sector exclusivity available by arrangement

The boundaries

I am not regulatory counsel and I do not give legal opinions. What I do is read where regulation is heading, engage with the bodies shaping it, and help you position for the rules that are coming rather than the ones that have arrived. When you need a formal opinion I will tell you, and I can point you at people who give them.

I also do not build. I will specify, evaluate and oversee, and work alongside the technology partners who do the building.

Start with a question

Tell me what you are trying to work out. If a retainer or a project is the answer I will say so, and if it is neither I will say that too.
